Mystery Castle with a Lot of Treasures
Digital Story Workshop received the Brooklyn Arts Council's Community Arts Regrant (Individual Artist's Tier & Program B, 2006) to make a 13 minute video with fifteen first graders from the Cypress Hills East New York Afterschool Program in Brooklyn. Third graders from the program created the main prop for the video using seeds they found in the neighborhood. Teaching artist/costume designer: Kristin Eno. Videographer: Sean Eno. Digital Story Workshop empowers young children by highlighting their own imaginative play, facilitates meaningful artistic collaborations between adults and children, contributes meaningful curricular material to classrooms, connects children from different neighborhoods, cities and countries to each other, provides exciting and creative media that complements the educational goals and creative whimsy of children's television but that takes the production process to a much deeper level for the child. http://www.digitalstoryworkshop.org

Due to the political turmoil of the 1950s and 60s, the wealth of Tibetan literature (over 100,000 texts), was scattered destroyed or lost. In order to preserve and restore the Tibetan texts that remain, there is a major effort in place to create a digital library. This ambitious project was initiated by the Tibetan Buddhist Resource Center under the guidance of scholar Gene Smith. Based on over 30 years of work by Gene Smith, the project to complete a digital library is now a major endeavor that involves the cooperative efforts of three organizations The Tibetan Buddhist Resource Center, Khyentse Foundation and Palri Parkhang Glorious Mountain Printery.

PATATO VALDEZ & race politics in the music world
"La rumba es como un beso, if the right people shows up it happens, if they don't, it does not happen. It is like a kiss, algunas veces pasa y otras veces no. A veces el beso esta sabroso y otras veces esta seco." Eddy Rodriguez, NYC

Children Video-Makers Film Children Dancing
Senegalese Children participating in the project, "A Meeting of Eyes." This project began in July 2004 under the direction of Dirce Carrion, president of the non-profit Brazilian organization Imagem da Vida (Image of Life). "A Meeting of Eyes," establishes an exchange between children and communities that have similar cultural roots, but have been separated by the history of slavery. Filmmaker/photographer/writer Marcelo Fortaleza Flores who introduced the teaching of digital video to children in Dakar and Gorree Island in Senegal, and Senegalese filmmaker El-Hadji Samba Sarr, who taught the video workshops among the maroons of Sao Lourenco, in Northeastern Brazil, worked on the project. Marcelo is currently editing a film using photography and moving images produced by the children and their experiences of the project - in their own words.

On OUR SIDE: teaching documentary film to children
Children have become the collateral damage of the prison system. But in them is also great potential for collateral benefits. If a child can rise above the psychological and emotional barriers of a parents incarceration, that child is far less likely to end up confined by physical barriers later in life. If that child can interpret, capture and share their environment and situation through film, they hold the power to change the way our communities understand the intersections of families and captivity. In summer 2006, Maysles Institute partnered with the Incarcerated Mothers Program to teach six 8-12 year old kids how to create short videos of their lives, to be shared with their parents and community. Our goal was to offer these young people the experiences and tools that will empower them to create influential works of art while envisioning and realizing healthy futures. The program will continue with workshops this fall, and then regularly in spring.
